Running against her worked for the Russians. It worked for EC purposes. It worked for the media.
Yes, the voters went for Clinton, but in a football game, you don't judge a win by which team is popular or time of possession, you tally the score. In the end, she lost, and those that ran "against Clinton" won.
Is that the way it should be? No. Should the EC have decided the election? Nope. Should Russia have gotten involved? Of course not. But that's what happened, and it worked. So far, running against Clinton has an 80% win rate.
