It probably never occurred to her to object. She resigned her teaching job in the summer and my brother was born the following January. That’s just how it was then.
Pennsylvania at least had a little compensation for it. Legislation was passed that any woman forced to resign a teaching job prior to 1979 could get retirement credit for the years she lost.
