27. Wait, I saw that on That's My Bush...
Episode 105:

George and Laura's 24-year old cat Pum'kin is very decrepit (aww!), but George can't bring himself to talk to Laura about putting the cat to sleep.

Meanwhile Laura, concerned about their sex life, wonders if George is less into making whoopee because she's gotten older. She overhears George talking about the old cat and thinks he talking about getting rid of her.

George goes to talk to Laura about the cat. Laura tells him she's going to the doctor, which George thinks means the vet. When George discovers Pum'kin is still alive, he finds Laura and takes one of her douches believing the vet prescribed it to kill Pum'kin. He and Larry try to use it, but it doesn't work. (me-ouch!)

A nightmare about his own death inspires George to break Jack Kevorkian out of prison to kill Pum'kin. Laura misconstrues George's nightmare and leaves on a trip to see the Punani Indians, who have mastered holistic treatments. After signing the necessary forms, Laura has the Punanis cleanse her in a tribal ceremony.

The now-fugitive Jack Kevorkian hooks Pum'kin up to his suicide machine, but tells George that Pum'kin must make the final decision. The police interrupt the ceremony, and mace Karl (HA HA HA!), but leave after George disguises Kevorkian as his wife.

Pum'kin struggles to end her life all night and well into the morning, until the police return with a warrant and Laura arrives back fresh from her cleansing. All hell breaks loose, but George stops it with a profound speech at the end of which, Pum'kin ends her own life and explodes (sniff). This time, Laura's learned a lesson: that she can talk to George about almost any family matters.

Bush Dog Put to Sleep Due to Health Woes

ASSOCIATED PRESS

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush's dog Spot, the 15-year-old English springer spaniel who had remained eager to please despite increasing health troubles, died on Saturday.

Bush and his wife, Laura, went along with a veterinarian's recommendation to put Spotty, as the longtime Bush family pet was known, to sleep, according to White House spokesman Allen Abney. She had suffered a series of strokes recently, including one this week, he said.

"The president and Mrs. Bush and the entire Bush family are deeply saddened by the passing of Spot," White House press secretary Scott McClellan said Saturday in a statement. "A loyal and loving companion, Spot was a beloved member of the Bush family for nearly 15 years. She will be missed."

Spot was no stranger to the White House. She was born there to Millie, the well-known dog of Bush's parents, former President George H.W. Bush and his wife, Barbara, in 1989.

The friendly brown-and-white spaniel was regularly seen ambling around the West Wing and the South Lawn alongside the more energetic other Bush dog, Barney, a black 3-year-old Scottish terrier.

The two dogs were routinely brought out to greet the president upon his return to the White House from trips, no matter the hour, and often traveled with the Bushes to Texas or Camp David. Spot was always the more obedient, dutifully clambering onto a helicopter or Air Force One with no prompting while Bush often had to chase Barney down and hand him off to an aide to be carried aboard.

Mrs. Bush has often said that - especially with Bushes' two daughters off at college - talking about and playing with the dogs and the family's much more reclusive cat, Willy, make up a significant portion of the First Couple's entertainment.

RIP Spot, you were a good dog and proved how dogs will overlook all their owners flaws.

I'm not going to joke about Spot the way the Repugs joked about poor Buddy.

Willy, wow I didn't know the Bushies have a cat. Guess he hides in the cat bunker in the WH.

This sounds awfully suspicious. I think it should be investigated, first by the White House security, then the FBI, and when they don't come up with the right answer bring in a Special Investigator. If we could waste $40 million on Whitewater, Vince Foster, and other lies, I think the Repugs should be willing to spend at least $1 million to do justice to Spot.

On the other hand, poor Bush, losing the only one in the White House with an intellect equal to his ....

Have some compassion.

I disagree with everything that Bush represents politically, but his family has my sincere condolences regarding the loss of their family member Spot.

I have many pets but there is genuine pain with the passing of each one.

Focus your animus on the man, not on the innocent animal.

He died a death more miserable than a dog's.

He died for no reason whatsoever.

His name went unpublished (they only report them now when they die in 2's and 3's).

No one cared.

No one gave a solitary damn about this kid.

Sure, his sweetheart back home will cry. And his mom.

But it's not like a DOG died, or anything, is it?

Did they find out that Spot was the one that put the pretzel in gw's mouth? Or after Spot found the pretzel in gw's mouth Spot pretended to lick gw's face but was actually trying to shove it down farther?

Or maybe it wasn't anything that sinister. Just that they found that Spot had left a doo doo in gw's shoe or on gw's pillow.

Please tell me how I should feel when he tells me of providing first aid to his buddies, blood all over himself and carrying them to a truck for me-evac. Better yet, please tell me how i should deal with the fact that my son told me "Dad, I had to kill a man". I wanted him to get through his life without having to do that. 71. Wrong! We're quite well. But, a sociopath like Junior doesn't *feel* loss.
Not even for a pet!

Witness the hundreds of American lives lost in Iraq (plus the thousands of innocent Iraqi civilians) because the pResident lied. Have you seen him shed a tear...or, attend a single funeral for even one of our brave soldiers?

There are many responsible, caring, loving pet-owners here at DU (myself included). And, we cringe at the thought of Junior "owning" a pet.

Because, we actually nurture and love our pets. Do you think Junior walks his dog(s)? Does he care for them when they're sick? Does he take them to the vet? Does he play with them? Does he clean up after them? Does he even feed them? (Her majesty the Queen of England even does that! But, everyone knows she loves her animals!)

But, for Junior, his "pets" are simply props for the cameras. He doesn't even ride horses on his pig farm, for chrissakes!

Please don't paint everyone on this thread (or all of DU) with a broad brush.

Thank you.

:-)

78. So stupid
"But, for Junior, his "pets" are simply props for the cameras"

That's silly. A guy like Bush can't love a family pet? The personal hatred for the man here is pathological.

69. Poor dog. This dog seemed to be fearful of Dim Wit.
Tail between legs or cowered when he was around.

R.I.P Spot.

What's up with the "reclusive" Willy? Sounds like it should be Cheney's cat.

74. Robin Williams had this scenario:
Lassie: Arf! Arf! Arf! Arf!

Secret Service: What's that, Lassie? Timmy fell down a well?

L: Arf! Arf! (affirmative) Arf! Arf! Arf!

SS: And you found Cheney's Enron papers?

L: Arf! Arf! (affirmative)

SS: Sorry, Lassie, we're gonna have to put you down.

L: yipe!

I wonder . . .

77. Personal hatred
Civil discourse in American politics is obviously a thing of the past. The president's dog cannot even die without juvenile comments that are found more and more each day on DU - with less real political discussion worth the time to even participate. I find it sad that there is so much personal hatred that people find it necessary to make infantile wisecracks at even the death of a family pet.
