SANFORD (AP) - A kitten that wandered into an auto parts store on Monday elicited oohs and aahs from onlookers.

But this was no ordinary kitty. It was a feisty, frightened bobcat.

The tiny feline entered VIP Auto shortly before 8 a.m. as Jason Hamilton of Sanford arrived to buy new tires.

"It just came walking in. I tried to call him like a normal cat, but he wouldn't come," Hamilton said.

3. My sister is rehabing EIGHT...
baby bobcats right now! They are seriously, seriously cute guys, but, make no mistake, they are wild.

There were two unreleasable, disabled baby bobcats she was able to interact with -- tummy rubs, playing with toys, cuddling -- until they got big enough where their "play" was becoming a danger to her health!

How nice of that guy to care enough to try to rescue a "kitty" -- I guess he just got more than her bargained for. :)

7. Hmmm. Wonder where the mom is?
That would be my first thought. I'd be worried about mom coming along and tearing you to pieces. For the kitten to get that far probably means something happened to mom.

:(

Hope the kitten does ok.

8. It might be someone's (illegal) "pet" that wandered off...
http://www.wcsh6.com/news/article.aspx?storyid=68141

VASSALBORO (NEWS CENTER) -- A baby bobcat that wandered into a VIP Auto Parts store in Sanford Monday morning has found a new home, at least for the time being. He's being cared for by Don and Carleen Cote at the Cote's Wildlife Care Center in Vassalboro.

Witnesses say the baby bobcat wandered the length of the store before hiding behind a toilet in the bathroom. Sanford police called in a Game Warden.

The Cote's believe the bobcat may have been in someone's home for awhile, since it appears relatively tame. Their hope is to rehab it and get it back to the wild.

That's their goal for all of the animals that are brought to them. They say they have no interest in turning these beautiful creatures into pets.

<more>

That's one tame wild kitty to allow a stranger to hold it like that...every one that I've encountered in the woods ran away as fast as it could..

10. We have a grown up bobcat that visits our yard
About ten pounds heavier than a LARGE domestic cat.

Has an indignant - "Why are you constantly in my space??" look on his face (Usually as he is leaving.)

He visits to pick on the neighbor's gophers (one of their favorite snakcs)

Our real cat is an indoors pet - and none of the neighbor's cats seem even remotely scared of this dude.

11. just last night my son encountered a bobcat
My son likes to go out walking in the middle of the night, he started down a side road and saw the cat about 100 feet away. He said it hissed at him and walked off into the woods.
