Plastic railroad ties and the great trash island
Edited on Fri Nov-18-11 08:41 PM by HysteryDiagnosis
Why not help them put their facility at or near a port and recycle trash island into railroad ties? It might be possible, free raw materials should be a plus... getting them there not so much.

On Edit to ADD: This would be a good job for a navy, air force and others who may have some idle time in the near future.... getting it there or at least helping to do so.

RECYCLE TECHNOLOGIES INTERNATIONAL, INC. Plastic Composite Railroad Ties
http://www.rti-railroad-tie.com/

RTI is a composite railroad tie technology corporation which exclusively manufactures and provides sales of PermaTieTM composite railroad ties. PermaTieTM is an engineered, 100% recycled plastic, composite railroad tie which is rigorously tested, AREMA compliant, and provably of superlative quality.

PermaTieTM plastic railroad ties provide the outstanding, rugged quality and extremely long lasting performance demanded by every RTI client, all the while offering a viable, AREMA compliant, non-toxic, environmentally friendly, greenhouse-gas-reducing alternative to chemically treated wood ties.

Ultimately, PermaTieTM is The Cleaner and Greener Crosstie that Saves You Money.

Why choose PermaTieTM engineered composite, plastic railroad ties over any other plastic, composite or wood ties? Click here and consider the facts.

1. I think they should construct a giant floating "island" to collect and bale the crap.
The technology is already available to do this and is in use. Then they can ship it out to a processing plant. It should be a multinational project, if possible.

They can make all kinds of crap out of plastic--decking and chairs in resort areas made out of the stuff lasts forever and looks great.

Eventually, nations will probably be fighting over that mess to "mine" it as they'll come up with a cost-effective way of turning that crap back into fuel!

2. The raw material is not "free"
It would cost an extraordinary amount of money to recover it from the oceans because it is scattered over such a large area.
