Free advice for Democrats from Mary Matalin on MTP this morning
Paraphrased

1. Attacking Republicans is bad strategy--name calling e.g. culture of corruption. The American People don't like this.

2. Democrats to work on developing new positions on the issues. American People want to see them hard at work.

3. Howard Dean is a horrible chairman and will lead the Democrats to disaster.

Ain't she just a sweetheart.

3. lookingglass world
Remember, everything is bassackwards and upside down.

Thus, attacking Reeptiles is a very good idea. Do it Dems..
.. unless you're really businessparty lite. Then, of course,
you're really not a Dem, just pretending.

Dems have put forth many great positions already. Go for it!

Howard Dean is a great leader! Period.

2. Democrats to work on developing new positions on the issues. American People want to see them hard at work.

Anyone would like to point me to the comprehensive Democratic positions??? I go to the DNC site and get a bunch of platitude's, but no new ideas on HOW we plan to do anything. I can tell you what the rethugs stand for, I can't say that about the Democrats positions.

* Keeping America Safe at Home
* Strength Overseas
* Honoring Our Troops, Veterans, and Their Families
* A Strong Economy
* Education
* Retirement Security
* Affordable Health Care
* Honest Government
* Election Reform
* Protecting Our Environment
* Civil Rights

I have yet to see the party leaders articulate any those positions besides bush is evil, republicans are bad. The MSM makes getting our message out tough, but even so, I don't know what that message is?

People vote for ideas and a vision.

12. I guess you haven't been paying attention.
Democrats stand for what they always stand for. A woman's right to choose, a living wage, affordable housing, clean air and water, affordable and available health care, good schools, safe neighborhoods, sane foreign policy, equal justice under the law, civil liberties and civil rights. And a host of other critically important issues that affect American lives daily. In the last two off-year elections, nearly three million more Americans voted for Democratic Congressional candidates than Republican candidates. This means that Americans agree that Democrats have the RIGHT message. Unfortunately, the out-of-power party has trouble getting press coverage for its actions.

Incidentally, what have you been doing lately to help Democrats get the message out? Nothing makes me madder than hearing the GOP party whine: "Democrats are in disarray and have no plan." That is the number one talking point from the RNC. And you just spewed it.

But the way it was misrepresented by Carville and Begala today really made me sick.

22. My take on issues
A woman's right to choose - An issue that divides the country and many people have mixed feeling about. Few people vote single issues

a living wage - What is a living wage? Ask average Joe America and that's the response you get.

affordable housing - With 70 % of Americans owning a home, almost a non issue to voters.

clean air and water - Hard sell to make people believe rethugs are for dirty air and water.

affordable and available health care - Now we are talking, a issue with some legs if positioned correctly

good schools - The average American knows the schools are broken, As long as the rethugs tie us to the NEA and against vouchers, it's a hard sell

safe neighborhoods - Who is for unsafe neighborhoods?

sane foreign policy - An issue with legs. Democrats need to present a comprehensive national security agenda

equal justice under the law - retread issue. People don't vote for this issue. It not the 60's

civil liberties and civil rights - retread issue except for the civil liberties part.

These are all important issues, but people don't vote for half of them.

Put this in a ten point plan and present it like the rethug "Contract wit America" and you will get a big fat YAWN

30. So, you agree with Mary Matalin. And you think "we" should abandon our
Edited on Sun Jan-22-06 07:35 PM by impeachdubya
commitments to reproductive choice, equal and civil rights, and the environment.

You think a liveable minimum wage doesn't resonate with 'the people'- (obviously you don't get out much.)

In fact, if I read you correctly, the ONLY thing the Democratic party should run on is an imitation of Bush and the GOP's supposedly 'tough on terra' national (in)security stance - a stance that has made us markedly LESS safe while running the deficit through the roof, destroying our reputation around the world, and costing us lives of thousands of military personnel in a war based on shoddy, cheap lies.

To sum up a great deal of your posts, "we" can't win on things like filibustering Alito, "We" don't have a message that resonates, "we" are in horrible disarray (a dubious 'fact' continually hammered by the media but certainly NOT borne out by the polls or recent election results) "The 60s" that the Democratic Party supposedly represents are allegedly over (there's a nice AM Radio cliche if I've ever heard one) and -best of all- "We" need to stop our mean ol' attacks on Republicans, because, according to you - they're right an awful lot of the time. At least, it sure seems that you find yourself agreeing with them "on this little point" or "that little point" an awful lot.

So, wow. How nice to have fellow Democrats such as yourself here -- to help us figure all this stuff out.

10. It's funny because it's obvious she doesn't believe what she says
But she has to say it because of the deals she's signed with the devil (the GOP machine).

And yes, she looked strung out as hell this morning. Like she's not sleeping well.

She also said Dean can't raise money. Last I heard he's already broken all previous records.

How do Matalin and Carville stay married, I wonder.

She said basically "Play nice now Dems, even though we are the ultimate dirty players. No name calling, cause we're vulnerable now."

What an idiot for what she said re Dean, can't recall what it was exactly but it was darn stupid.

She said he can't raise funds, but didn't we have a thread that said he broke records last year in fundraising?

on that show too? "Take it Back" ?

Caught a few soundbites, but thought she was on that panel to piss off enough Dems to buy the book. I think she even admitted, to raise tuition for their daughter's college :)

32. Uh, if personal attacks and Name calling don't work
why are assholes like Hannity, Limbaugh, Savage and Coulter so wildly popular?

Shit, attacking is the ENTIRE fucking GOP playbook.

Sorry, Mary, you can take that "helpful advice" (Seems certain folks, even here, start squealing extra loud with this kind of shit particularly when we're in danger of scoring some serious body blows on the GOP. Nice try.) and use it to wax your husband's bald head.

36. Carville and Begala can't stand Dean or Kerry or any real liberals
Their entire book is an attack on Dean, Kerry, Boxer, et al - the liberal Democrats - and an admonition for Dems to support Hillary in 2008.

Someone for real needs to tell them that's it's so not 1992 anymore.
