I watch the Nightly News on NBC... And I was shocked....
They did a very good report on he said she said, the Bush Rice dust-up...

They presented clips from both and then refuted everything that Rice said...

No comments, no taking sides...

Just a matter of fact story, like they should be...

The AMerican public does not need to be told what to think....

We are capable of making a decision if the facts are laid out in front of us...

Of course I reverted to DU mindset for a minute and yelled at the screen that they should blast Rice and then it occurred to me, they aren't suppose to blast... Then they would interject themselves into the news and that is not Journalism... That is Faux...

1. Rice has her own comments about fly swatting
concerning terrorists, in recorded government hearings that tells it all. She may have been a soviet expert but she didn't know squat about terrorists. W was on a month long vacation.

4. If they had blasted Rice.........
it would have been editorializing.........

There is a place for that......

But I don't think that the Nightly News is it.

Good for them for presenting the plain facts.

That's how it should be.........

6. I think sometimes people forget that good journalism
presents the facts....

Sometimes the facts just happen to be overwhelmingly against one side or another...

All I ask is that they present facts and then let us decide...

17. What's nicest of all is that NBC Nightly News is back on top in the
ratings. Leading bush-apologists ABC (hey, doesn't ABC stand for Apologists for bUSH and Company?) and the embarrassing new Gidget Couric at CBS - in fact, sending her to the back of the line.

Olbermann said last night that he expects to have an expose like this (maybe it's the same material he's just passing along, or adding to) on tonight's "Countdown."

9. OMG - old tyme news!!!
It's funny expecting opinion. We have to think back to realize that that is not the way it is supposed to be.

Hopefully this is a trend.

11. As a refugee from CBS, I now watch NBC news...
I was forced to run and hide from the horrible evening news/morning show with right wing guest speakers that now is the CBS evening news with Katie. After a lifetime of watching Cronkite and Rather. I now watch the NBC news, because of Keith Olbermann. I figure if they allow him to speak freely, there's less likelihood anyone there is muzzled by top management and forced to toe the Republican Party line.

I watched the NBC news tonight. The report on the NIE was well done. I regret that they didn't clarify that this was only a selective release of information in the actual report, as determined by the Republican Administration as appropriate to declassify. And likely selectively biased to their position. I heard nothing addressing this.

But on the Clinton said, Rice said portion, Andrea Mitchell gave a straight-forward report that to my ears, basically confirmed Clinton's version and pointed out the errors in Rice's version of reality. They just didn't call Condi the liar that she is.

That part was inferred.

14. I think that you will find that many here disagree with you.
"The AMerican public does not need to be told what to think....

We are capable of making a decision if the facts are laid out in front of us..."

I don't know how many times I have seen the American public referred to here as "sheeple." Maybe it is a code word for "smart people who are capable of making a decision if the facts are laid out in front of us." I think that it ususally used in frustration that our argument has not yet won the day, but it always strikes me as a very elitist reaction to the "uneducated masses" just not understanding our wisdom.

I heartily support your post and hope that we do not view the NBC news as just another MSM mouthpiece after this evenings news.

15. In the words of Lyle Lovett ...
when ask how he managed to land Julia Roberts ...

"Even a blind chicken gets a kernel of corn every once in a while."

Clearly a fluke.

18. Even if it is a fluke,...
... we need to write to them and let them know that we liked the show for its truthfulness and unopinionated telling of what the viewers needed to know.

16. NBCs been pretty good lately
We have those Bush interviews with Brian Williams and Matt Lauer and David Gregory reducing the leader of the free world to apoplexy. Tweety's been taking his Democrat meds more often than not and even Russert managed to remove his lips from Cheney's posterior long enough to ask him a few tough questions. Then of course, there's Olbermann.

Did GE lose out on a big military contract to Haliburton or something?
