Honest 'perverts' have a right to privacy that *must* be respected. Hypocrites? Not so much.
First off, let me explain the use of the word 'pervert'. I put it in quotes and intend it as a term of endearment, not one of derision. I have my own perversions, thank you.

I think the "DC Madam" phone list story is potentially a razor sharp double edged sword. It was fun to see David Vitter, a family values/sanctity of marriage Republican, outed for using the services of sex workers. The even more smarmy Jack Burkhart seems also to be ensnared. In his case, there may be a serious silver lining to his cloud; there are allegations/indications the guy really is a sex freak who likes too-young women.

I have no problem whatsoever - none - with outing hypocrites for indulging in the very sorts of activities they campaign or just rail against. I also know this view is not universally held.

I love it when preachers who spew homosexual hate get busted for gay sex and drug use.

I love it when sanctimonious 'protectors of marriage' and moral authoritarians who make a career sniffing the crotch of a once and former US President are found to be serial adulterers while the sniffee has moved into the third decade of his one and only marriage.

If someone were to provide tapes or videos proving that a guy like Ken Mehlman, long rumored to be gay, was, in fact, gay, I would hardly be offended or outraged. Anyone who actively works to keep a group of people from enjoying full equality for a single trait that is the object of hate deserves to be shown to be a hypocrite if that's what he is. I'm not saying Mehlman is gay. I don't know if he is or not. Actually, I wouldn't even much care were it not for his role in making gay marriage the hateful issue it became in the 04 election cycle.

Is this all limited to the Republicans?

No.

Is this all political and should Democrats who do the same be ignored?

Absolutely not.

Hypocrisy is what it is. It stinks.

But as we move through this shitstorm of potential outings, let us not fail to keep our outrage or joy (as the case may be) in check.

I will be cheering to see every singe hypocrite's name made public. I will defend as strongly as possible the right to privacy of anyone who is not.

But beware and be ready. Double edged swords, once unsheathed and swung, leave lots of blood on the floor.

1. We are all sexual beings. The point isn't the sex, it's the hypocrisy
Compare a revelation that Hugh Hefner has half a dozen women a day "servicing" him (or trying to, he's getting up there) with the hilarity that Haggard provided us with. Hefner admits he's a horndog. Haggard was trying to convince his flock to follow him in heterosexual, monogamous, sober piety.

Revelations against Democrats who never pretended to be the moral arbiters of the country are going to ring very hollow, even though they will put stress on a lot of marriages. Revelations against the party of god, against gays, and the claim of ownership of all that is good, true and moral will be hilarious.

That's the difference. One side of that sword will be a little duller than the other.

9. But the MSM ...
our beloved fair and balanced media will of course ignore the hypocrisy and point out the "bipartisanship" of it all, if even one Dem is shown to be involved.

4. This is exactly why we never saw naked pictures of Jessica Lynch.
Larry Flynt was poised, ready to publish them in the event she turned out to be a hypocrite. But she was an honest victim. And he withheld them, as a result. He took the moral road. That's how immoral a man he really is. And it shines a light on the true reality. Not the one "they've" forced on us. We're finally waking up to 30 years of smoke and mirrors.

And it doesn't matter who it is. But I can bet safely that republican hypocrites outnumber Democrats by a very very wide margin.

Time to recycle the old Bob Dole joke with Vitter's name:

Reporter: Excuse me Senator Vitter, do you like boxers or briefs?
Vitter: Depends.

8. and people need to be damn careful
phone numbers change and get reassigned. There are a few calls on the list that are of very short duration and not repeated -- could be a wrong number. If the evidence is strong, I have no problem with it being reported. But I've seen speculation and even the naming of names when the evidence was quite unclear and that makes me uncomfortable.

10. K&R
I'm not sure if these folks are just hypocrites, well we know they are hypocrites, but do they believe they are above what they believe to be sin (I say "believe" because, unless it involves children, what consenting adults do is none of my business, even if I might find it icky.) or are they deluded enough to believe they are somehow absolving themselves by condemning others for their same behaviors?

I try so hard not to point my finger at people who do things I have done or do. It's tough when you have kids of your own. When I talk about drugs to mine, it is not, "Don't do drugs they are evil", it's more like, "some are bad, some, not so bad, some are necessary (think about a diabetic's needs), but you are too young to know one from the other. Your mind is still developing. These things will affect you differently than they will an adult and on top of all that, it is all illegal for minors so don’t even think about using anything until you're old enough to be smart, safe, and legal about it."

11. It's the irony I appreciate more than the hypocrisy
Vitter's pleas for people to stay out of his bedroom. That's just too rich but I wonder if it's lost on freepers.

13. Oh, but don't you see....they are just trying to protect us
from the awful, awful demons that torment them.

All that sex, and all those drugs and all that money....oops, did I say money? Well, since money IS the root of all evil then, yes, they are trying to protect us from all that money too....

Truly... they always tell us they only have our best interests in mind *cough*dumbasses*cough*.
