LITTLE ROCK - Lt. Gov. Win Rockefeller has sent a letter to state Republican Party officials saying he definitely is in the 2006 race for governor of Arkansas.
"I want you to be the first to know that I have decided to seek the office of governor in 2006," Rockefeller said in the Feb. 21 letter to the Arkansas Republican Party Executive Committee and State Committee.
The 56-year-old billionaire son of former Gov. Winthrop Rockefeller said he will more formally announce his candidacy after the Legislature adjourns sometime this spring. As lieutenant governor, Rockefeller presides over the Senate.
Rockefeller may not be the only high profile Republican candidate to seek the governor's office. Former 3rd District Congressman Asa Hutchinson of Fort Smith also has expressed interest in the seat.
