Save Our State Parks!
Edited on Wed Jun-03-09 01:17 PM by JuniperLea
I'm still in a state of profound sadness over the proposed closure of so many of our California State Parks! This just cannot happen. If we lose them, they are gone forever. Some of these parks are very fragile, and can easily be completely and irrevocably destroyed out of neglect.

Please use the link below! There are links provided for each park area Assembly-member and Senator. Cal Parks has done most of the work for us! So please! DU this!

You don't know what you have until it's gone...

1. For a while, several years ago, they were charging $5 per car per overnight stay at Anza-Borrego
Where I go often. I was glad to pay it. It wasn't enforced aggressively; there was just an "iron ranger" that they kept stocked with envelopes.

I'd be happy to have them bring that back.

2. Me too!
I can remember walking up and putting that little yellow envelope in the slot. As I recall, we had to put our vehicle's license number on it. I always figured that was so they wouldn't bother us if we had paid. I'm all for that system! I'm sure there are those who would try to skate, but it would take far fewer rangers to patrol and check. Those poor rangers! They are paid pitiful sums anyway, now there will be a cutback and many will lose those jobs. Rangers are like teachers; you really must love the work to be accepting that kind of pay.

I remember "camp hosts" too! Retired people who set up camp at the beginning of the season and stayed there all summer to keep an eye on things. I really wanted to be one of them when I retire. But now I'll be 90 or so before I can retire!

4. The closing of the Will Rogers State Park is a travesty.

5. We volunteer at Anza Borrego Desert State Park...
It cannot be closed. If they under-fund it or don't fund it, it will be ATV-ed to death. The Archeo sites will be robbed, too.

Lots of the parks have one or two entrances. ABDSP has hundreds.

Madness.

We are hoping against hope that this is some kind of bluff Ahhhnold is running.
