TALLAHASSEE -- CFO Alex Sink this afternoon named another former Cabinet member, Bob Milligan, as her new consumer advocate for insurance.
Milligan, a Republican, served as Florida's comptroller from 1994 to 2002, and helped convert that post to chief financial officer. "He will be a strong advocate for the people and is a role model of integrity, honesty and accountability in government," Sink said in the announcement of her selection.
Sink pledges to seek legislative approval this year to expand the powers of the office to legally intervene in rate cases, investigate industry business practices and to promote public policy.
She has in mind a staff expansion as well, adding actuaries who can delve deeply into health and property insurance rate cases. The current office has a single actuary.
