2nd impaled deer in 18 months found at Fort Sheridan Cemetery
FORT SHERIDAN, Ill. (AP) — A dead deer has been found impaled on a black wrought-iron fence at Fort Sheridan Cemetery near Chicago.
The Chicago Tribune report it's the second time in 18 months Lake County Forest Preserve staffers have found an impaled deer. Forest preserve police chief John Tannahill says the latest deer was found Nov. 17 and appears to have tried to jump the fence.
About 2,000 soldiers are buried at the 121-year-old cemetery.
Tannahill says the district is working to find out what can be done to prevent another deer meeting a similar fate. He says the district is getting help from animal behaviorists and maintenance workers will see if something can be done with the fence to prevent accidents.
