DU mentioned in Fosters/Sunday Citizen Column
http://www.fosters.com/January2005/01.02.05/news/art_01.02.05d.asp

<snip>
"Those Right-wing Republican religious nuts with three or four children in an SUV are killing people daily," one poster over at the Democratic Underground explained. "All of the pollution eventually sinks into the ground, and rots away the ‘bones’ holding our planet together, and causes earthquakes."

Not exactly high science, but, then again, nobody every accused bloggers of letting facts get in the way. Appropriately enough, this was met with the equivalent of "nuh-uh" by conservative blogs. Which isn’t a scientifically based rebuttal, either, by the way.
<more>

Sometimes I'm embarassed to be here. :(

1. Find the forum before passing judgment.
Personally, I'm surprised the right-wing Creationist nutcases haven't come out and said that the tsunami is a punishment from God.

They're falling down on the job! Where are Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson when we need them to blame tsunami on gays and feminists?

2. they had to dig pretty hard to find that post
I'm more embarassed by the mainstream media willing to ignore hundreds of intelligent, well documented DU posts, and spend endless hours to find that dreck.

3. Why because an asshole called you a blogger when you are a poster?
There is a big difference in case you haven't noticed. Look at like this when a MSM person asks questions of people on the street are they now MSM personnel?

4. Here's the thread
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=104&topic_id=2877711

The poster in question has 41 posts. The response to the poster was pretty negative. Time for someone to write a letter to the editor about objective journalism. The writer was trying to imply that this was representative of DU and progressives. Asshole.

5. Might have been
a troll looking for some flames who might have written OP or perhaps the author of the article himself wrote the post. But more likely it was just a concerned citizen of the world using metaphor to get his/her point across, but then metaphor was never a strong conservative suit anyway.

8. It takes some intelligence to recognize metaphor
intelligence that is sadly lacking in the right wing.

9. Keep in mind what you're reading
Edited on Sun Jan-02-05 01:29 PM by Redneck Socialist
I've found that the more I read the foster's daily disappointment (or most other NH "news"papers for that matter) the stupider I get.

The line about invading the ocean was pretty funny though.

"This tsunami thing is terrible," he said. "The death toll is something like September 11th times twelve. If this had happened to America we’d be invading the ocean by now. Because it clearly would hate our freedom...."
