Nader claims 7,000 sigs in South Carolina
This doesn't add up

http://greenvilleonline.com/news/2004/07/11/2004071134954.htm

Already the group has collected more than 7,000 names and is racking up about 1,000 signatures a day, said Simon Demory, South Carolina coordinator. The effort is based in Charleston. They expect to turn in about 5,000 more than the minimum, he said.

but ...

The 20-year-old has spent the past month and a half collecting signatures to secure Ralph Nader a spot on the presidential ballot in November. So far, he's contributed about 700 John Hancocks to the effort.

So the campaign claims 1000 sigs a day. But the kid they interviewed has collect 700 sigs in 45 days (less than 20 sigs a day)

So it would take 50 canvassers to generate 1000 sigs a day.

But Nader's only claims 10 members in its petitioning crew.

1. my guess is many republicans signed that petition
but, that is their right. I support ballot access for anybody who wants it--but I am deeply troubled by Nader in this election cycle. He seems to have gone off the deep end. I'm surprised that the media doesnt give the actual Green Party nominee, Cobb, more attention since he is already on ballot in many states.

2. I'd rather have him getting on the ballot in places like S.C.
as opposed to Ohio, Pennsylvania, Missouri, and other swing states. South Carolina is clearly going to go to Bush. I just the aforementioned places above don't go with the Palmetto State as well.

3. Nader is paying people $1 a signature to go out and collect them.
I'm with the SC Greens and we were approached for this and turned him down.

4. Nader turned in 11K sigs
see here

He needs 10,000 valid sigs to qualify. THe State Election Commission will validate them.
