County Court At Law #8: John Lipscombe. While I believe that both Lipscombe and Barrera are fine human beings, when they spoke at Keep Austin Blue, John talked his his vision for using his court to get non-violent offenders into rehabilitation, rather than writing them off and letting them spend their lives having repeated encounters with the penal system. Carlos Barrera talked about digging up a big rock on a Little League field.
Travis County Democratic Party Chair: Andy Brown. Fidel Acevedo has been around for a long time I know and has some friends, but as far as I can tell he's hardly raised a nickel for his campaign. Like it or not, one of the main duties of the chair is raising money, and if Ace can't raise money for himself, how's he going to raise anything for the TCDP. Andy, on the other hand does know how to raise money, he's got residual goodwill from laying the groundwork in HD-48, and everybody and Lloyd Doggett's dog has endorsed him.
Travis County Commissioner Precinct Three: Karen Huber. Yes, I know she used to vote republican. But apparently Ann Kitchen, Mary Ann Nealy and Valinda Bolton dunked her in the waters of Barton SPrings and baptized her into the Blue Faith. I think she's got a good record with environmental causes while understanding how businesses work. And let's remember, women have been winning elections in this part of the county. Albert Gonzales is a terrible candidate. He doesn't have clue about running a campaign and as far as I can tell from his website, he barely understands what county commissioners do.
DIstrict Attorney: I voted for Rosemary Lehmberg largely on the basis of Ronnie Earle's endorsement. I will say that if you've ever seen Rick Reed in his trenchcoat and fedora, he looks like he could have stepped out of "The Maltese Falcon".
