Sunday MailSHAMED bank boss Sir Fred Goodwin is a secret cousin of one of Scotland’s most feared gangsters.
An astonishing family tree has revealed the former Royal Bank of Scotland chief is a blood relative of ruthless crime kingpin Grant Mackintosh.
The pair grew up less than a mile apart in Paisley.
While Goodwin, 51, forged a glittering but doomed career in accounting and banking,
Mackintosh, 52, became one of the Scottish underworld’s most notorious figures.
Goodwin, nicknamed Fred The Shred, is in hiding after presiding over the loss of £24.1billion during his stewardship of RBS – the biggest loss in British corporate history.
A source said: “Sir Fred and Grant don’t know each other personally but they do know they’re related.
“Grant’s family were well respected in Paisley and he was the only one to go off the rails growing up.
“Until Sir Fred’s role in the demise of RBS, Grant always thought he was the only black sheep in the family.
“He has told people he’s proud to be related to Sir Fred.
