Super Precincts Anyone? Are they a good idea?
While activists are trying to get paper ballots,
Legislation for super precincts is being introduced in several states.

Some of this legislation includes:

Pros -
voter can vote out of precinct prior to and on election day

Cons -

greatly reduced number of precincts
reduced number of voting machines
farther to drive
possible longer lines
machines break down longer they are used
uncertain what voter turnout to expect each day
encourages the use of DREs (won't know how many opti ballots to print)

1. Anything that
encourages machines is a BAD IDEA.

2. Something I don't like about it.
Seems like a good place to pull a heist.

And how much gas do we burn driving there?

I walk my dog to the Poll. He get's the "I Voted" sticker on his collar.

3. Seems like a horrible idea
In addition to all of your 'cons', here is another.

Wasn't the caterpillar ballot a 'child' of the super precinct? Much easier to screw with the tabulation---does not even require programing. Simply put stacks through the wrong tabulator & instant election fraud/theft.

If I am wrong, please, someone speak up--Nicely.

4. Not if you want paper
Precinct level voting allows hand counting. Typically, 1-2000 people vote in each precinct. The little old ladies in tennis shoes come out in force and watch the polls and count the votes at the end of the day. Takes less then an hour. I did elections one year here and we counted the votes twice just to make sure. We were off by one vote between the two counts.

One example Germany they use large polling stations and still keep paper only. It takes them weeks to count them. I suspect they'll beat us over the head with the issue as I think Americans want to know the results that same night and would go to great lengths to keep that tradition.

I think want paper keep precincts, throw water on super anything they want to call it.
