Great...Gawker is doing crap on Keith again...implying the Mancow waterboarding was a hoax
and that he fell for it:

http://gawker.com/5271813/did-erich-mancow-muller-fake-his-waterboarding-for-publicity?skyline=true&s=x#viewcomments

Sure doesn't look like a hoax to me, even if it wasn't done the exact same way as some other demos. Still looks horrible.

And, as some of the comments say, if it were a hoax, why the hell would he stage it so as to end with him saying "No, I was wrong, it is torture"? Wouldn't it make more sense for him to come away from it having been waterboarded a long time and still saying "Aw, that's not torture, it's no big deal"? Wouldn't that be far more beneficial publicity for his career if he did all this only because he so badly wanted to be a bigtime wingnut shock jock?

I'm just not buying it. Nor am I buying that Sgt. Klay South, who founded Veterans of Valor, would be a willing party to such nonsense. A guy who organized something like this?

http://www.veteransofvalor.org/

I am just not buying it. But I imagine Keith will once again feel the need to defend himself against accusations from jerks. This time, not that he's a prima donna, but that he's a dumb sucker.

1. New development...Mancow will be on Countdown tonight to address this:

Now this story makes more sense. I can believe Mancow maybe originally thought he was going to fake it. I can believe South didn't really know about how to waterboard and decided to learn by watching demos and do as best he could. But was the whole thing an intended fake and hoax on both their parts? I don't think so. It sure didn't turn out the way Mancow might have planned it, anyway.

2. Agreed. I really doubt Mancow could have forced the words "It was
torture" past his lips if it really didn't feel like torture to him.

Maybe the folks at Gawker need to be waterboarded too.

3. It just seems to me like it defies common sense to stage a hoax
by getting a guy who didn't know what he was doing, taping what he did to you (which might be even worse than what he was supposed to do), and then (as a person who proclaimed loudly and clearly that he didn't think it was torture) turn tail and say "Yeah, it is torture."

And that's even allowing for the fact that Mancow apparently still thinks torture is OK if it's going to produce information to help his country *sigh*.

But of course, it's got the Keith-haters on TVNewser all excited, thinking this is going to be the moment when Keith finally gets shamed out of the news business a la Dan Rather for being a fraud and a liar.

*sigh*
