President Obama at One Year: Lower Ratings, Higher Doubts
Edited on Sun Jan-17-10 04:21 PM by spiritual_gunfighter
ABC News/Washington Post Poll: 53 Percent Approve of Obama's Job Performance

Bruised if unbroken, President Barack Obama faces shrinking public confidence, increasingly negative views of the country's direction and far lower ratings than those he carried triumphantly into the White House a year ago this week.

But it could be worse.

Despite their disappointments, 53 percent of Americans in this ABC News/Washington Post poll approve of Obama's job performance overall -- 15 points lower than his opening grade, but still just over half at the one-year mark. He remains personally popular, if far less so. And confidence in his leadership, as weakened as it is, greatly exceeds that in the Republicans in Congress, or, for that matter, in his own party.

The comedown nonetheless is dramatic, partly given the high expectations when Obama took office. Sixty-two percent of Americans now say the country's off on the wrong track, the most in 11 months. For the first time more than half, 53 percent, aren't confident in Obama to make the right decisions for the country's future. Just 41 percent say he's keeping his major campaign promises. And while a year ago 76 percent thought he'd bring "needed change" to Washington -- his campaign mantra -- far fewer, 50 percent, today say he's actually done so.

Indeed more than half, 52 percent, now say Obama hasn't accomplished much overall -- up sharply from 36 percent at the three-month mark, the height of his economic recovery efforts. With the economy still rated as the country's most pressing problem, Obama's approval for handling it has fallen from 60 percent a month after he took office to 47 percent today. And a new low, barely over a third, says his policies are making the economy better.

7. If you think that is a negative article about Obama
you obviously didnt read it. There are many numbers in the internals which are very favorable. And the last I heard 53% is a majority.

12. Incredible! An OP that is strictly a headline and text from a major news source
Edited on Mon Jan-18-10 08:15 AM by Phoebe Loosinhouse
posted with NO COMMENT gets reviled for negativity and "hating" because it violates some strict code of happy ostrichdom that is being enforced by happy ostriches.

We are only supposed to post pleasant articles with positive titles that reflect only good things about our President and any other Democratic entity or policy. Didn't you get the memo?

This is starting be like the "It's a Good Life" episode of the Twilight Zone. We've got our own little Anthony Fremonts running around telling people what they can post, discuss and think.

19. If you cannot handle the news as it is reported OUT THERE in the real world
you have serious issues.

You might want to discuss the spin in the article, the lede, the headline, whatever, but calling the person who posted it without comment a "hater" who "bashes Obama" by printing something verbatim from a major news source is just sad and weird. Did you pause to think that perhaps you might want to know what is being written and read and discussed OUT THERE?

We do know the media is our enemy. They prove it time and time again. Why not focus your wrath on any errors or inaccuracies in the article?

I found the link below yesterday. We need to keep on our toes, not try to bury how the media slants their coverage.

Edited on Mon Jan-18-10 02:17 PM by mkultra
this is a DEMOCRATIC board meaning not that it is a democracy but rather it is established to support the democratic PARTY. It is a haven from the MSM smears and Obama bashing that are frequent "OUT THERE."

We all know what goes on in the mainstream. We don't come here to learn more MSM crap.

from the rules

Constructive criticism of Democrats or the Democratic Party is permitted. When doing so, please keep in mind that most of our members come to this website in order to get a break from the constant attacks in the media against our candidates and our values. Highly inflammatory or divisive attacks that echo the tone or substance of our political opponents are not welcome here.

17. 53 percent approval is hardly a sad Sally moment.
And the fact that 52 percent think he hasn't accomplished much is no surprise for two reasons:

1) The media has not acknowledged any of Obama's many accomplishments this year.

2) Generally speaking, Americans are fucking stupid. They believe anything they hear. On the other hand, if cable news doesn't ram something down their throat on a daily basis, they don't know about it because they're too fucking stupid to educate themselves on issues.

Isn't 53 actually UP several points from last month? Love how they paint the picture of his sinking approval and leave out the fact that he jumped a couple of points since December. Way to go again, Post. You suck.

53 is still a good number considering what is going on in this country right now. If you dont like the internals which I am sure you dont, maybe you should stop focusing your wrath on OP's and try and figure out why the numbers are the way they are.

28. Wrath?
Gosh, was I showing wrath toward the OP? I'm pretty sure I was slamming the Post for not reporting its own findings, which is that Obama's approval appears to be up from last month. Instead, they just focus on saying he's down a year later, which ... duh. Considering what he's been dealing with, he's still doing pretty damn good at 53. What I took issue with is the media, which as usual, paints the picture it wants to paint while conveniently leaving out part of the story. It's all "The sky is falling! Obama is falling!" -- ignoring that their own polling seems to show him climbing up a few points from last month.

Edited on Mon Jan-18-10 02:36 PM by billh58
is a prime example of a battle of egos which has become so popular on DU. The insults being flung back and forth are at best juvenile, and at worst are deliberate attempts to disrupt reasonable debate and discussion.

Accusations of "cheerleader," and "paid troll" are about as helpful as deck chairs on the Titanic, but then again scoring "loudest asshole" points, and starting surefire flame-bait threads, seems to be all the rage these days.
