U-S official confirms rise in sectarian violence

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - A day after police discovered the bodies of 65 torture victims in and around Baghdad, another 20 men were found dumped on the streets of Baghdad today.

The top U-S military spokesman in Iraq confirmed a spike in sectarian violence around the capital over the past 24 hours.

Major General William Caldwell says there was an increase in "murder-executions," probably from an increase in sectarian violence.

Car bombs and drive-by shootings today also left at least 15 people dead. The deadliest attack was a car bombing near the central passport office that killed nine.
