20. Jesse Jackson and the SS
Edited on Thu May-15-08 01:07 AM by NBachers
I keep remembering Jesse in his 1984 run for president. I supported him.

The SS has code names they use for candidates they're protecting. In '84, their code name for Jackson was Pontiac.

You know how sometimes people take the letters in a car's name and make a silly saying out of it? Like FORD:

Found
On
Road
Dead (or First On Race Day, if you like Fords)

Guess what PONTIAC's word saying is?

Poor
Old
N*****
Thought
It was
A
Cadillac

Is this coincidence? Hardly. Is it appropriate for Jackson's protective SS detail to refer to him this way?

Then there's the March, 2003 joke that was passed around Secret Service supervisors. It involves an airplane crash; the punch line was that an airplane crash involving Jackson and his wife would be, “neither a great loss nor an accident.”

Listen, my heat's still breaking over the security lapses that led to the death of the Kennedy brothers and Martin Luther King Jr. And the "accidental" plane crash deaths of Paul Wellstone, Mel Carnahan, and John Kennedy Jr. are not punch lines to any jokes I tell. I don't want any new, tragic security "lapses" around Democratic luminaries.

Nobody's trying to hang this around Obama's neck. If there wasn't a legitimate problem of racist behavior in the Secret Service, then the black agents wouldn't be pursuing their discrimination lawsuit. If the Secret Service is compromised, then our candidates are compromised. We can't lose another one. Not now.
