CIA: Destroyed videos likely not covered by court order

WASHINGTON - The CIA says two destroyed interrogation videos likely were not covered by a court order.


In court documents filed late Wednesday night, CIA officials say they reviewed thousands of documents and found nothing suggesting the destroyed videos contained information related to a federal case.

While short on details, the documents offer the first public accounting of the investigation into the tapes' destruction. A federal judge demanded the information because, in 2005, he ordered the government to keep all evidence related to his Guantanamo Bay case.

The tapes show harsh interrogation methods used on al-Qaida suspects. The CIA says it set up a special tapes coordination group to work with prosecutors reviewing reams of classified documents in the case.
