Sixty-four percent of the officers report that they believe morale within the military is high. Still, they are not without concern for the future. Five years into the war in Iraq, for example, a majority of the officers report that either China or Iran, not the United States, is emerging as the strategic victor in that fight.

To me this means that the officers are incredibly detached -- physically, intellectually, and emotionally -- from the war in Iraq. It means that as long as their jobs and benefits, not to mention their lives and limbs, are comparatively safe, they don't mind being a part of a military that is just grinding away in a meaningless war in Iraq.
