Tax rollback closes Bedford library (Texas)
Advertisements [?]
'It's not going to be a fun summer,' city manager says.

On Tuesday, the Bedford City Council voted to close the library and several other city facilities for at least six months to balance the city budget after a recent tax rollback.

The Bedford library closed Wednesday evening and will be open only for book returns.

State officials said it's the first Texas library they know of to close. American Library Association officials said it's the first library in the country to close since 1989.

<snip>

Pools also will be dry and some parks and medians overgrown this summer in Bedford. The fate of the Senior Citizen's Center – which is co-owned with Hurst – also is up in the air.

This pisses me off so bad. This country obviously wants to be a nation of complete idiots. I'm in Dallas and I would be devasted if our libraries started closing.
