2. more likely to take 1000 years to get the world back to working order
The mishandling of oil's finite supply has been so bad the crises it's incurred are going to shatter civilization, and possibly destroy all macroscopic life on earth if global warming has truly reached "runaway" proportions (recall that a temperature increase of 6C is suspected to have caused the Permian-Triassic extinction, and 10C is considered sufficient to break down the fundamental chemical processes necessary for aerobic life). The unpreparedness takes the form of being caught with useless, unfuelable vehicles, and the lack of a means to even revert to pre-industrial bases for agriculture, transportation, or manufacturing (e.g. there aren't enough horses or coal-fueled vehicles).

The fundies are going to be sorely disappointed when they discover what's coming is not Armageddon or the Rapture, but a really lousy reversion to death squad -backed military dictatorships worldwide (including the US) and sub-Saharan Africa-like famine etc. conditions along with them.
