9. Slush fund politics
we won't talk with you - unless you give money to us and employ "our people" (former staffers)...

when we talk with you - IF you give us enough, we will give you government contracts (tax payer dollars) - but to get the next installment... er... contract, you have to immediately upon reciept give more money to us.

If you can pool enough $ on a regular enough basis then we will let representatives of your company write major legislation (only to be inserted at the last minute... say in conference committee... so no one notices the tax breaks and earmarked contracts within).

To those who say "everyone does it" - ask them to point out a parallel dem structure to the K-Street Project? Ask them to point out parallel examples of industry written legislation to that of the medicare prescription plan, the energy bill, and the bankruptcy bill. Ask them to then show a similar flow of money .... political contribution - to specific govt contract (direct payment of taxpayer $s) - followed by more "diversified" political contributions (that is now to spec. congressmen, but in addition also to those congressmen's pacs, favorite foundations and other vehicles that give payments either to the politician or some family member of the politician.)
