But internally, I would have been as pissed as they were. Do you have any idea how often lesbians have to put up with gigglegigglenudgenudhewinkwink stuff from guys? Not stuff that is clearly joking among friends, but really insidious stuff that's passed off as joking, but isn;t... that's leering, sexual, whatever. I have no idea if the poster meant it that way, but it is how I also read it. When you're gay and female, you have a double whammy were stuff like this is concerned.
What the poster said frigging pissed me off. I'm 41, and am so tired of hearing this crap, and then having people say not to get "offended," to have a sense of humor. NO ONE has a right to tell people what should or shouldn't offend them. The poster was asked more than once to leave it alone or to explain himself, and he choose to engage in argument and some not-so subtle "so whats."
As GOP said -- there's a reason while they were defensive. The poster came onto to a thread talking about specific lesbian stuff, and then acted EXACTLY like so many have before.
The two posters accused of an attack are not ones that get pissed at joking stuff guys on DU say... even playful sexual and flirting stuff.
There was a reason for the attack, even if you can't see it. If anything, the poster's remarks could be construed as hostile and even bullying by haruka and lionness. They were filtering it from THEIR experiences and POV, from very similar things and words and actions that have been less than great for them and queer friends. I'm not embarrassed, because hopefully the poster learned a lesson about how certain things aren't funny to certain "demographics." And, what difference does it make if he's new???
I am sick and tired of "getting over it," and "excusing" people because they don't apparently no better.
Oh, and I'm sooo Glad you're "totally for complete rights for all people." Geez... do you have any idea how condescending that sounds.
ON EDIT: the term "lifestyle" is infuriating, and that is one major thing the girls reacted to. It's demeaning, arrogant,a nd is a total RW buzzword. We have a fucking LIFE, not a lifestyle. Being Goth is a lifestyle... being gay is being human.
