A 2009 Message To my Fellow DU'ers----"We Get Back Up"

I figured I'd post this now seeing as I might not have time tomorrow...

Just like millions and millions of other Americans 2008 has been a rough year across the board for me and my family. At 19 I graduated high school this year only to realize finances would not allow me to go to college. I never gave up HOPE! I have been layed off from the factory jobs I started this year that I hoped would allow me to save up money for college. I have seen my parents lose both their jobs, we have lost our house, our possessions and the dignity of being able to call ourselves 'middle class'...yet we will never give up hope.

As 2008 dwindles to a close, the immediate 2009 isnt looking much brighter for me or my family or even millions of other families; They say that this economic crisis will get worse in 2009 before it gets better, for those of you like me who wonder how in the hell it will get any worse than it already has, for those of you who feel like giving up because the pressure is too much-remember this one simple thing....WE ARE DEMOCRATS and in 2009 under an Obama Administration we will once again restore the principle that says if you work hard and play by the rules YOUR TOMORROWS WILL ALWAYS BE BETTER THAN YOUR YESTERDAYS!

Over the course of the past 8 years this basic principle has been swept under the rug by the Bush Administration and the ways of Washington. We have seen the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, we have seen the middle class almost completely demolished, we have seen countless numbers of our friends and family members move from the dignity of work to welfare, we have seen record numbers of people lining up at food banks and pantrys, we have heard the stories of people who have lost nearly everything.

My fellow DU'ers Americas promise has always been that anyone can make it if they just try hard enough. That is a motto I have been raised on, its a motto that I truly believe, yet over the past 8 years millions of Americans have been trying hard, yet their future remains in jeopardy. I realize I dont need to tell you this, I am only 19 years old and I have experienced it already in my life, many of you live this everyday and for that I commend you.

My message to all of you is simple, while times may be tough and there looks to be no light at the end of the tunnel remember this one simple truth-there is always going to be someone who has it worse off than you- this is what keeps me going, this is what brings me down to earth...

Through the best of times and the worst of times we have seen it all here on DU, we have seen triumphs and tragedies, we have been advocates for election fraud, and demonstrators for peace. While we may have disagreements on certain issues, we all share a common goal... I am priveleged to be a part of DU and I look forward to Democratic Underground in 2009!

God Bless My Fellow Democrats and I hope everyone has a wonderful, happy and safe 2009- as Joe Biden said in his DNC speech "MILLIONS OF AMERICANS HAVE BEEN KNOCKED DOWN-WE GET BACK UP-WE GET BACK UP TOGETHER, OUR DEBT TO OUR PARENTS AND GRANDPARENTS IS TO GREAT; OUR OBLIGATION TO OUR CHILDREN IS TO SACRED, THESE ARE EXTRORDINARY TIMES"
