Let's be careful comparing baseball teams to politics. I don't mean to burst the bubble of Red Sox fans or any other fans, but ALL baseball teams operate on the principle of charging out the wazoo for things at the stadium, trying to buy other people's free agents and so on. Their owners are usually politically conservative and are more than happy to stick it to taxpayers by whining about "competitiveness" until the taxpayers buy them a new stadium.

Frankly, I think the Red Sox are a much better example of a "conservative" team, if one wanted to use the metaphor. The Yankees are like old money: they've had it forever and will always have it forever. Boston is like the new-rich up-and-comer who claims to be the team of the little guy, but still generates enormous profits and does the same damn things to its fans the Yankees do.
