7. His diabetes had been a longstanding problem
When he left the band the first time in 1980, it was because of the diagnosis, and he couldn't handle their then break-neck touring pace. He did a solo album, then got in shape and rejoined in 1982.

One of their original guitarists, Steve Holland, graduated the same high school as my sister did, 10 years before her. My history teacher in high school (same city, different school) knew him as a kid and had home movies, which my 16 year old mind thought was the coolest thing.
