1. i liked culebra island (near vieques) for beaching + snorkling
it's a bit isolated and quiet though. the west coast for partying and surfing.
if you stay in san juan at all "old san juan" is beautiful and lots of fun, for restruants and nightlife. the gallaria hotel there is pretty cool in old SJ. i went to el yunque and it was beautiful, but very rainy, i'd keep that as a day trip on the drier, northern side, (the south gets more storms) which is by the ferries to vieques and culebra.
