Reply #65: Mom died Labor Day 1999 after living with Michael and me for 7 months

My dad, after dropping out of school and working his ass off to feed and educate us 5 kids, went "middle-aged crazy" in the early '90's after 40 years of marriage. He left mom sick and alone for the last 8 years of her life. I love him tremendously, and I respect the sacrifices he made for us, but when he left her, he left his children too. I haven't seen him since a family wedding in 2000. I love and miss the man he was at one time, but I can't forgive how she was hurt by being abandoned while terminally ill. I know I should get over myself, but I just can't do it.

I prefer to remember him from the happier days when we were still a happy family.
