Steroids are strong medicine and can cause diabetes in cats. Antihistamines usually do come in liquid form and are as you said, fairly benign.

Try using a flea comb on your fur baby. Look for and remove the cause of the skin problem. Unless you know that the skin condition is genetic, there are less drastic things than medication that you can do. That is all I was saying.
