There's also Obama's lack of experience, and, believe it or not, the perception that Obama is not as different from McCain as he claims to be. I heard particular reference to the latter the last time I was back in the States. For example:
McCain-- for offshore drilling Obama-- supports "some" offshore drilling (after being against it)
McCain-- out of Iraq by 2013 Obama-- out of Iraq by 2011
McCain-- did not vote for FISA (but no doubt supported it) Obama-- voted for FISA (after being against it)
Then there's the matter of immigration. McCain takes a tough stance, which plays well in the heartland where there is growing resentment against illegal immigrants.
Now while Obama and McCain may have their stunning, remarkable differences, they don't seem to be making it through the media filter.
