It was my belief at the time certain candidates had to be stopped at the earliest moment. I've since reassessed and feel affiliation more pertinent than repudiation. But I can see where some might believe they serve their cause by momentarily shifting alliance. It's why I favor closed primaries, where like me in bygone days a vote for someone hated requires change of registration, not merely a request for different paper. It would go far to keep the primaries untainted.
