Ezra Klein: Who speaks for the Republicans?
Advertisements [?]
When the inevitable showdown between the revived Republican Party and the Obama White House occurs, who will speak for the Republicans? In 1994, they had Bob Dole and Newt Gingrich, both of whom were nationally credible leaders, at least at the time. But looking through Gallup's "most admired" poll, Republicans haven't coalesced around any similarly serious names -- or really anyone at all.

Poll findings:

Most admired men:

The most admired man among Dems, President Obama, has a solid 46% support, yet the former President George W. Bush could only manage 11% in his lead (and others less than 7% each)

Most admired women:

An equal amount of Dems and Repubs admire Oprah the most...Sec of State Clinton and Sarah Palin have nearly the same dominant amount of admiration among their bases (Clinton 31% of D, Palin 26% of R)
