I drive a 2008 Dodge Charger RT with a 5.7L HEMI as my daily driver.

It has a 5 speed automatic transmission and mult-displacement engine feature that turns off two or four cylinders in cruise.

In spite of being a big block V8 and heavy car and having an automatic transmission it gets 23 MPG.

My Camaro has the late 80's vintage LT1 engine w a 6 speed manual transmission and gets 32 MPG because of the transmission.

The best thing you could do for improving fuel economy is start driving a stick.
