Reinstituting a ban--a permanent one this time--on so-called "assault weapons" is still in the party platform.

And geez, is it possible to come with more prejudicial language than asserting that the measures you want are "reasonable" and that anyone who disagrees with them is by definition "a crazy"? Maybe it's just me being hopelessly cynical, but when I read or hear language like that, I tend to interpret it as a strong indication that the speaker is unable to argue for the measures he's advocating on the basis of their merits, and therefore has to resort to pre-emptively smearing his opponents.
