Domestic dispute leads to shooting in Wellington

By Rochelle Brenner, Palm Beach Post Staff Writer
Wednesday, June 30, 2004

WELLINGTON --
The shooting of a 31-year-old man during a domestic dispute on Sunday was the second time someone was struck by a bullet in the village in the past three years.

Crimes involving guns are rare in Wellington, but when they do happen, they are typically connected to a family fight, according to police. Even most robberies are strong-arm attacks and don't involve guns, said Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office Capt. Gregory Richter.

"When we do have violence, it's going to be centered around a domestic situation more than likely," Richter said.

That's what happened in the most recent shooting. Deputies say Louis McPherson, 55, apparently shot his daughter's boyfriend twice after the boyfriend struck the daughter. The sheriff's office is still trying to determine whether McPherson should be charged or if he fired in self-defense, Richter said.
