When did the whole concept of abiding by the law become so apparently difficult for people to grasp?

The talkingheads persist in casting illegal domestic spying as a FALSE DICHOTOMY between "National Security" ("protecting the American people," "Safety," etc.) VS. Civil Liberties. So we hear Tweety, Andrea Mitchell, Norah, etc. etc... telling us (as Tweety just did again): "Security Trumps Civil Liberties."

This is NOT a card game. The two are NOT mutually-exclusive.

Need to eavesdrop? FINE -- GET A WARRANT!!!

What's so complicated about that?!? Grrrr....
