Anyone that took the trouble to read the British press knew that they were lying. Colin Powell's presentation to the UN was debunked by the Brits almost as soon as he gave his speech.

The real truth is that the DLC was telling Democrats to vote for IWR in order to get the issue off the table, so that then they could talk about the economy.

Most voted for IWR not because they were mislead, but because they didn't want to deal with a war that they thought was only going to last 2-weeks. It was a cold political calculation, and it cost the lives of nearly 3,200 GIs and at least 650,000 Iraqis.
