I'm not sure if some people are just unaware/sheltered from this use or they are just spinning to create trouble. Here are some links I found where the term is used in the same manner in was on msnbc. I don't include the thousands of references where people 'pimp out their cars' or other items.

It no longer is about helping and healing, its about how much more money I can make and how can I get paid on the products I’m putting in my patients. Its the hospitals and the patients that loose out. The money that is paid to the surgeon should be paid to the hospital since it is their O.R.’s that are being pimped out for the doctors kickback cash.
