Thank you, thank you, thank you, dbonds! This is exactly what came to mind when I first heard about this whole kerfuffle. I've been gone and was going to research examples when I got home, but you did a fine job. I have seen and heard that kind of completely non-sexual, non-sexist usage quite a number of times.

Shuster's language was inelegant and a case can be made that journalists should use slang expressions, redefined words/phrases, and neologisms sparingly in the interest of accurate communication, but all this rumpus is ridiculous. I canNOT believe he was suspended.

I realize emotions are running high all around and for the best of all possible reasons -- we are all passionate about the enormous job to be done cleaning up the Bush mess -- but we need to remember that very soon we will all be backing the same candidate.

BTW, no I am not an Obama supporter looking for a chance to bash Hillary. I am an Edwards supporter who will fight hard for the Democratic nominee, whoever that turns out to be.
