I flicked on the radio when the Gang of 14 formed to stop Frist from going nuclear. McCain was in the Gang of 14, and Rush hated on McCain for 3 hours. Not only do the talk radio folks hate McCain, so do their listeners, who serve as opinion leaders for their apolitical friends. My wingnut next door neighbor adamantly said she would never vote for McCain EVEN IF he was running against Hillary (and she hates Hillary). So this is real, it's a genie long out of the bottle, and it can't go back in just because he secured the nomination with the more moderate side of the party.
