attitudes have changed drastically since then. i am sure there were some people who never held the accepted racist beliefs of the time, but there were others who did because they absolutely were more acceptable...and more held racist beliefs then than today. per obama's recollection, his grandmother used racist language, in part because it was more acceptable then. clearly there have been significant changes in society and attitudes since then, but that doesn't change history.
