Perhaps as part of a "deal" for her stepping down, the party would jump to the forefront of trying to get her to run to take over for Spitzer instead. That way, perhaps it would clear the way for RFK, Junior to endorse Obama, so that he still feels he could take over her Senate seat if she were to win the governorship, which is likely why he endorsed her to begin with (so that seat would be come "open" if she were to become president).
