12. "if only we had realized Clinton's thinking could be so cold"
Some of us did, and tried to warn you (okay DU, not Goodwin) back when she kneecapped Kerry in 2006.

Serious thinking about that episode - and just a little bit of knowledge of Kerry, with the realization that Clinton knows him personally from working in the Senate with him - would have predicted what has followed. Although I must admit, I've tried to shake it off as an aberration rather than indicative of her character - just in case it turns out I have to somehow vote for her in November.

To be more clear: what Clinton did to Kerry was COLD. She would know as well as anyone that he couldn't possibly have meant what the right-wing was selling, but rather than stand up for him, she stood with the smear merchants. Hillary supporters will tell you "she only said his remark was inappropriate" and yes those were her spoken words BUT what that said was "as someone who knows this man, I can tell you that the right wing's interpretation is correct, he really does hold a low opinion of the troops, and you are right to despise him for it." BUT as someone who knows Kerry she knows the opposite is true, that he holds our military in high regard; as someone who commanded others in wartime (highly successfully) he shares a camaraderie with troops in general; as a Senator he has sponsored numerous bills to improve treatment of the military and military veterans. He regularly attends funerals of troops killed in action. The way the right wing twisted his words had to be very tough for him, yet apparently all she saw was an opportunity to put the final kibosh on any chance he might oppose her for the nomination in 2008.

I think most rational people can see how ice-cold a person would have to be to behave as Hillary did in that incident.
