Excuse me, did the writer of the letter titled “Sheehan and left wing take moral low ground,” published Aug. 22, really mean to say that Cindy Sheehan is in the “gutter” and that it is “shameful” that some are proud of Ms. Sheehan's comments?

I have adjectives of my own for people like Ann Coulter, when it comes to defending this war. “Unhinged” and “factually challenged” come to mind.

Can the letter writer or Ms. Coulter please explain to me how the terrorist acts perpetrated by pan-national Islamic fundamentalists on Sept. 11, 2001, justified the invasion of Saddam Hussein's secularist dictatorship in Iraq? I thought we were there to remove weapons of mass destruction? Stabilize the region? Get rid of a ruthless dictator? Spread democracy in the Middle East?

This week we're “taking the fight to the enemy?” Last I checked, the enemy was still in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Yemen and such. They just happen to be immigrating to Iraq now that President George W. Bush, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and Vice President Dick Cheney have turned Iraq into Afghanistan (circa 1980).

Let's face it, the brazen dishonesty of this administration, and its apologists like Ann Coulter, are the true “gutters” here, not the outspoken citizens who oppose this hypocrisy.

I hope all of our proud men and women in uniform are brought home soon, and safely, from this illogical war.
