to make light of such things. It plays into divisions that subtly reinforce racial/gender based judgements.

I've always believed overt racism/sexism was easier to fight, it is obvious and knowing what you're up against is half the battle...and, in most societies, it falls under the weight of the shear stupidity of it all. But, it is the subtle, backroom, behind closed doors, 'in jest', type of racism/sexism that is much harder to overcome.

If there were no real inequities based on race or gender, fine joke about it. But, the fact remains we are not there yet. And, until we are, I'd rather not take a chance.

But, I'll be the first to admit I'm a bit sensitive to these things. I have a very diverse family and have become increasingly frustrated by some of the utter B$ I've seen my loved ones endure over the years.
