I do it because some topics are either over the top flamebait or simply not of an interest to me. Flamebait being the worst as it tend to stay at the top more and knock down things which may be of interest to me.

If I think a poster is over the top troll material I add them to my buddy list. That way I can check back later and see if I was right and they're eating pizza, or if I was overly sensitive and owe the person an apology.

I've never ignored a poster for disagreeing with me. I did ignore a poster once briefly who was following me around and attempting to bait me. I only ignored them then because they were close to tempting me into losing my sweet nature and getting my own bum in trouble. After I'd regained my composure I took them off ignore and found them to be tombstoned. I was shocked I tell you. Shocked!
